Final Reflection
Experience
As I learn this module, I have learnt a lot about typography. As this is my first year, there were a lot of things I am unfamiliar with, especially the software used. By completing each task, from its exercises to projects, I improved not only my skills, but also my preference towards type. It took a lot of effort to do tasks that look "simple". From every task I realize it took time and needs analysis. Here, I have learnt the history of letterforms, from their origins to modern-day applications, and understanding how to format and create fonts was truly an experience!
Furthermore, the feedback from my lecturer, Mr. Vinod, has helped me in improving my skills and gaining more knowledge about type. His feedbacks have guided me to identify the areas that I need to improve in my design. Every critiques he gave, whether its directed to my work or my classmates, have offered valuable lessons on how to create a well-balanced design. This experience encourages me not only to enhance my technical skills, but also my design sense.
Observations
In every task I have done, I learnt that details are really important. Even something as simple as adjusting the kerning between letters can dramatically change the overall appearance and readability of a type. Every detail of each element can create a significant harmony towards the overall design.
Not only observing my own design, it was thrilling to know everyone else's work, especially during task 1, where everyone has unique approach on expressing the words. Observing their work and listening to the feedbacks are both educational and inspiring to me. By knowing others approaches, I know that everyone has their own creativity, and by observing and listening, I may achieve other ideas and inputs to put to my own work.
Findings
As for last, I find that every progress I made is important. I know how much I have improved since the first week until today. By today, I learnt a lot of tools that can help me, how a nice type design is made, how letter were formed and how it evolved. I am very thankful for this module as I believe this would be really important for my basic skills through out the day.
