Introduction to Composition
Focal Point : starting point of exploration
Scale and Hierarchy : attention toward and away from elements
Balance : the weight of elements (big, medium, small)
White Space : empty space to balance main focus, helps design to breathe
Rule of Thirds
Rule of Thirds is the process of dividing an image into thirds, using two horizontal and two vertical lines. This imaginary grid yields nine parts with four intersection points.
Elements of image must be at either of these intersection points to make it better composed.

1. Human (especially on the eye)
2. Text
3. Object
4. Empty space
Important things to notice in composition:
1. Leading lines and Diagonal
2. Framing
3. Patterns
4. Symmetry
Golden Ratio

Tutorial
- Explore, then cut elements of selection area
- Start composting the design elements (DO NOT STICK)
- Arrange it based on Hierarchy
- Take a photo, to compare which one has the best composition
- Lastly, Finalize by sticking it
Practical
Making Collage
Students were instructed to make a collage out of materials and make at least 3 designs with good composition.
Below are the designs:
After finalizing it with Mr. Fauzi by rearranging it and adding some elements, this is the final result:
